The train is now leaving the station
Nate here. Rachel and I have been praying about and dreaming about adoption for years (the "human" kind, not the "animal" kind). The first 2 kids (Charlotte and Phoebe) came back-to-back and kept us busy, but it was another 4 years before #3 showed up. In that time we thought adoption was where we were headed, but it was not to be. When #3 (a third girl, Penelope) showed up, we were met with some shocking news: Rachel had cancer. By the grace and healing of God, the skill of many medical personnel, and the prayers of the saints across the country, Rachel has been cancer-free for over 5 years!
After buying a new home, remodeling it (framing, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and finally getting our feet underneath us, we are once again heading toward adoption and the future of our family. After looking into various agencies, foster care, consultant groups and many adoption testimonies/what-not-to-do stories, we decided to work with a consultancy group: Faithful Adoption Consultants, based out of Atlanta.
Why we chose a consultancy group:
From my experience, there are no advocates for the adopting family through the whole process. Which, by extension, means their adopted baby may end up in a family that can associate their adoption with being taken advantage of or manipulated. An effective consultancy group can help the family smoothly navigate the process, which is a big part of why we decided to do it. Another huge part is that having knowledgeable people is good, but even better is having believers involved who are committed to pray and live above reproach with the way they do business.
At the end of the day, humans at every level of this process are flawed and fallible, and we trust God to finish what He started by calling us to walk this road. It’s for Him, and through His power that we do this.
